The evening sun is finally back, and I am excited to get outside to ride my road bike. I train all year to race with the Domestic Elite Team, 1kFlips Racing, and most of my winter training is on the indoor trainer because 5 AM workouts outside in the dark and cold are just plain hard. No matter where I have been riding and training, I have been taking care of my “saddle region” all winter. While it might sound a little TMI [too much information], my skin used to be kind of weird down there where the saddle and chamois contact my body. It would get kind of dark and rough, even when using glide on products or chamois creams to try and avoid saddle sores. While those products did seem to help me avoid saddle sores most of the time, my skin still seemed to almost callus? While some of my friends and family think I wear cycling kits twenty-four seven and that all I do is ride my bike, I like the sun and the beach! I stand up paddle board and go to the pool with friends, and having dark areas around my bikini line made me feel self-conscious.
I work at a medical facility and one day had a co-worker leave a cute glass vial on my desk of, well, lube. I questioned why she put it there initially, but then saw a small flier for the product called überlube. The pamphlet talked about using the sexual lubricant for anti-chafing in sport. I love a good experiment and thought, might as well try it!
The application process was clean and easy. I would dispense 6-7 pumps of überlube into one palm and then just do a quick swipe on both sides from under my gluteal folds (butt cheeks) following the natural track to my inner thighs/groin area, do a quick rinse of my hands, hop on the bike and go! I could also apply it anywhere else I have issues like under the zipper of a skinsuit or on my inner thighs to keep my skin protected and healthy.
Overtime, I started to see that my skin tone was more even and my skin was smoother and softer than it had been for a long time. I didn’t really understand why, but did a bit more research on überlube and learned that the silicone based lubricant also had Vitamin E in it. The production of the product is also pH free, so it doesn’t throw off any of the natural balances of anyone’s private regions.
The way überlube is made makes it a great product for men and women for anti-chafing, but of course it also serves as sexual lubricant. I have been truly impressed by the improved quality of my skin while using überlube. My theory is why use products in intimate areas for anti-chafing that are not scientifically based to be down there? überlube has helped me avoid saddle sores throughout the winter and into the Spring. I ride almost daily and don’t plan on using any other products to protect my sensitive areas. I am looking forward to the Spring and Summer months with me no longer worrying about dark skin around my bikini lines.
