In today’s chaotic world we are sometimes overwhelmed. The American psychological association reports that up to 76% of all adults have experienced health impacts due to stress in the last month. For many life has become complicated and expensive. Limited funds and vacation days can prevent taking time to rest, revive and reinvigorate relationships. A staycation may be the easiest answer to help decrease stress, replenish energy and restore your sex life.
What exactly is a staycation?
A Staycation is a vacation spent at your own home rediscovering and enjoying your “castle” with your partner, while leaving daily responsibilities and stresses behind. This can be structured with a planned itinerary or no plans at all. Finding adventure around your own home or simply taking advantage of a few days rest and relaxation will reconnect your intimacy. Note: Have kids? Send them to a relative’s or plan a kids share program with another couple. You take each other’s children for a few days so each couple gets their own staycation. Well planned, a staycation can be truly relaxing, romantic and memorable.
Why?
A stay-at-home vacation saves money, eliminates the exhaustion of travel, and may be planned at the last minute and on your terms. We all need a reprieve from the day-to-day monotony and stress but can’t always afford a luxury trip.
How? Turn your home into a boutique hotel
- Make up the bed like hotels do with new crisp linens, a neatly folded inviting duvet and lots of pillows.
- Ditch your loose sweatpants and baggy T and upgrade to plush white terry robes, and sexy lingerie.
- Stock the bathroom with your favorite scrubs and body wash for romantic showers or baths together.
- Create a mini bar with seductive snacks like chocolate covered fruit, nuts and champagne.
- Order room service (ok…your favorite take-out delivery) and place on fancy trays with champagne flutes for “brunch in bed”.
- Watch movies in bed; catch up on your favorites.
- Put chocolates on your pillow; splurge on decadent treats you wouldn’t usually buy.
- Make time for sex. Maybe surprise each other with some fun novel sexual accessories.
-
DON’T FORGET THE LUBE.
Try to act like tourists in your hometown or local neighborhood:
- Plan a daily itinerary including R&R.
- Visit a museum or art gallery.
- Choose a trail and go for a bike ride or a hike.
- Play tennis or pickleball.
- Try the local spin or yoga class together.
- Go to a favorite bar or restaurant for a lazy afternoon.
- Plan a nice dinner and buy fresh supplies. Cook together and maybe even try some new exotic foods.
- Go shopping and try on clothes for each other.
- Schedule a couples massage or spa treatments.
- Take in a movie, show or sporting event.
- Take a nap.
- Curl up together with some good books.
- Play board games.
- STAY OFF OF THE INTERNET.
Unplugging on a staycation is mandatory. If you need to check in, set a time limit and stick to it.
- Limit electronic exposure and ensure your phone goes immediately to voicemail.
- Turn on that vacation email.
- Put your phone on airplane mode.
- Send children and pets on their own vacation with grandparents or friends.
- Turn off alarm clocks … it’s ok to sleep in.
- Commit to each other – no work, laundry, chores or projects around the house.
THE ONLY PROJECT IS YOU TWO
When?
Anytime! That’s the beauty of a staycation. “Vacation sex” is hot and can be found right in your own back yard…. Literally. No packing, no airports, no long lines at TSA or border controls. There are no airplane dramas to deal with, no hotel check in or rental car debacles.
